-------Spicewood Arts Society Sponsors School’s First Creative Arts Magazine-------

The Spicewood Arts Society has announced its partnership with Spicewood Elementary School as Sponsor of the school’s first edition of its Spicewood Creative Arts Magazine. On February 1, the Society presented Marcy Mueller, Spicewood Elementary’s Art Specialist, a $2,500 check to underwrite the school’s inaugural edition of the school’s new major arts project.

The Creative Arts Magazine will include a wide array of art, photography, poetry, short stories, essays---any form of art a student would like to submit. Throughout the year, students are submitting their work, and this project is open to all students, in all grades, K-5.

Ms. Mueller, who championed the idea of the Creative Arts Magazine, and her co-editor, Emily Kelley, will assemble all of the students’ art work and literary submissions, and create a master copy of the magazine. Next, the magazine will be professionally printed, and, by mid-May, it will be ready for sale to students, their families and friends, as well to all Spicewood community residents. Proceeds from the sale of this Creative Arts Magazine will go to the school’s ART Fund and the PTO, with some of the proceeds possibly being allocated to specific grade level project funding.

Alan Tonnesen, President of the Spicewood Arts Society, said the Arts Society eagerly partnered with the school on this new project because it encompasses such a wide spectrum of both the visual and literary arts. As such, the Creative Arts Magazine project meshes perfectly with the overall mission and focus of the Spicewood Arts Society. Tonnesen urges all local residents to be on the lookout for the First Edition of the Spicewood Creative Arts Magazine in mid-May, and he asks everyone to support this outstanding effort to promote local students’ creative work in the visual and literary arts.

The Spicewood Arts Society’s mission is to enhance and promote the visual, performing, and literary arts in the Spicewood community. With a calendar of outstanding performances held at the Spicewood Vineyards throughout the year, the Society is now in its eighth year. These programs truly are unique in that attendees have the opportunity not only to enjoy excellent performances, but also to mingle and talk with the performers afterward the show, discussing the craft and live experiences of the artists.

In addition, the Society held its annual Arts Round-up in October, a major fund-raiser which made sponsorship of the Creative Arts Magazine possible. The Arts Round-up showcases the fine art work of many local artists, in a fun, two-day community event, with live music, food, and an art auction/dinner/dance on Saturday evening.
