The Austin Lounge Lizards

Saturday, January 23, 2010

7PM

Based in Austin, Texas, the Lizards have honed their music into a funny art form. They’ve delighted audiences from Texas to Trafalgar Square with their inventive style of satirical folk, country and bluegrass. Trademarks of a Lizards song are highly literate, sharply pointed lyrics that poke fun at politics, love, and the culture in general. Combined with superb musicianship that features precise four- and five-part vocal harmonies and instrumental mastery, the band’s songs are as melodically infectious as they are lyrically prescient.

A night of fun and laughs!!

Albert & Gage

Saturday, March 6, 2010

7PM

In Austin, Texas—a town overflowing with gifted singer/songwriters and guitar heroes—Christine Albert & Chris Gage have a ten year track record of making beautiful music together. Over the course of five duet albums, the duo has demonstrated that disparate backgrounds do not preclude musical soul mates from finding one another.

Their Burnin’ Moonlight album led an Austin Chronicle reviewer to exclaim, “(The songs are) beautifully framed by the duo's intertwined, yearning vocals, leaving a glow as luminous and bright as moonlight itself.” And the Houston Press noted, “From George Jones and Tammy Wynette to Richard and Linda Thompson, male-female duets are one of popular music's most delightful permutations. And the Austin-based duo of Christine Albert and Chris Gage easily slot right in with the best.”

Albert and Gage have an “energy, humor, really fine duet singing, strong leads, original harmonies, a strong sense of partnership, personality, and musicality”.

The Texas Gypsies

Friday, May 14, 2010

7PM

John Hewitt-Upright Bass/Vocals, Mark Menikos-Violin, Erik Swanson-Guitar/Vocals, Steve Curry-Guitar/Vocals, Andrew Griffith/ Drums

Imagine you're in a quaint Parisian cafe listening to a delightful acoustic jazz combo. The air is filled with songs, some familiar, some exotic and intriguing. You're caught up in the music as virtuoso guitar riffs complement beautiful violin melodies. The rhythm guitarist is strumming his guitar with fiery abandon while the bassist slaps a rhythm that your feet can't resist. As you head for the dance floor, you notice a Shiner beer bottle — suddenly you realize that this isn't Paris, France, it's Paris, Texas, and you're listening to The Texas Gypsies!

The Texas Gypsies have an eclectic sound, combining Gypsy jazz with Western swing, as well as our own unique take on pop and jazz standards, with a look evocative of the '30s and '40s. The group features two guitars, violin and bass, but can add drums and a horn section for an even bigger sound. The music is at once earthy and sophisticated, appealing to a wide audience. This isn't music for jazz purists — this music makes you feel alive.

The Texas Gypsies have recently been accepted into two prestigious arts programs — the National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpieces touring program and the Touring Artist Program of the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Named "Best Western Swing Duo or Group" by The Academy of Western Artists
